Yoshkar-Ola is a city in Russia, the capital of the Mari El Republic.

With a population of about 263,190 people in 2015.It was founded as a wonderful city in 1584 as a military fortification by Tsar Fyodor Ioannovich in the center of the Volga-Vyatka region, on the banks of the Malaya Kokshaga River. Until 1919, the city was called Tsarevokokshaysk, in the period from 1919 to 1927 - Krasnokokshaysk. In 1984, the city was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor. Modern Yoshkar-Ola is a large diversified industrial, cultural and scientific center of the republic, is one of the centers of culture of the Finno-Ugric peoples.
