Museum of Andrei Tarkovsky
About the company:
Opened on 29 November 1996. The building was built in 1911. In Soviet times, the house was transferred to residential communal apartments that existed until the creation of the museum.
In 1938, N. M. Petrov (stepfather of A. Tarkovsky’s mother) was given a doctor’s place in the district hospital of Yurievets and two rooms of this house became their place of residence. Andrei Tarkovsky lived with his grandparents in this house in 1936-1939 (in the summer) and in 1941-1943 in evacuation. Museum rooms reproduce the life of the Tarkovsky family, immersing us in the childhood of Andrei Arsenyevich. The impressions of childhood left an indelible mark on his memory and were reflected in his work.
A.Tarkovsky Museum and Cultural Center has four halls. Each room describes a separate side of the filmmaker’s life. The museum collection of the center consisted of materials from the family archive transferred by Andrei Tarkovsky’s sister Marina Arsenyevna, as well as materials from the cinema museum, the archive of VGIK (a) named after S. A. Gerasimov, the A. Tarkovsky Foundation. The expositions acquaint with photos taken in Yuryevets, with photographs taken during filming.
