Aniwa lighthouse
Description:
One of the most striking excursions on the island is the Aniva Lighthouse, located in Aniva Bay at the extreme southern point.
Aniva lighthouse was installed by the Japanese in 1939 on a small rock Sivuchya, near the hard-to-reach rocky Cape Aniva. The height of the lighthouse is 31 meters, and the height of light is 40 meters above sea level. The author of the project of the Aniva lighthouse was engineer Miura Shinobu. The tower has 9 floors. The flashing lighting apparatus of the 3rd category was driven by a clock mechanism. In the central part of the tower was a pipe, inside which was suspended pendulum — weight weighing 270 kilograms — wound every three hours for the movement of the optical system. The lighting apparatus rotated in a bowl filled with 300 kilograms of mercury used as a bearing. The range of the lighthouse was 17.5 miles.
