North Kuril city district, Sakhalin region, Russia.

Description:

Ushishishir is a group of two uninhabited islands located in the Great Range of the Kuril Archipelago. They are part of the North Kuril city district, the Sakhalin region of the Russian Federation.

The group includes Yankicha Island and Ryponkicha Island, as well as adjacent rocks. Their total area is about 5 square kilometers. Basically, the islands are covered with grassy vegetation, tlaniki and meadows.

On the island of Yankicha there is an active stratovolcano Ushishishir, 388 meters high. There are also many thermal, fumarole springs and geysers.

On the islands there are nests of fools, cairos, puffins, gulls, ducks and cormorants. Once, foxes were brought to the islands, and a nursery was created here. At the moment, their population is quite numerous.

The Ushishire Islands are separated by the Ricard Strait from the Ketoy Islands. To the northeast of them are the islands of the Middle.
