Cape Eustathia and turquoise lakes
Description:
On the east coast of Sakhalin Island, almost at its very tip, there is one of the amazing beauty and impressive place – Cape of St. Eustathius.
The route to the Cape passes by LNG, Russia’s first large liquefied natural gas plant, where huge gas carriers are waiting in line for loading.
And a few kilometers from the village there are blue lakes of the Novikovo coal mine. In Soviet times, these were coal mines. But after the mine was abandoned, the quarries were filled with rainwater, due to the high content of sulfosal germanates, the color of these lakes is turquoise. They look very impressive, especially in sunny weather, and in winter they freeze later than others. When you get to your destination, there is a stunning panorama of the local creations of nature. Climbing the mountain, 51 m high, you can feel that you are looking at the island from the side. An extraordinary sense of flying. View from the upper part of the cape to the south, to Cape Pavlovich. Behind it is the extreme southeastern point of Sakhalin - Cape Aniva. Around the mountain crystal clear water, fresh sea air and stone landscape. The beauty is indescribable. On a sunny day you can relax and enjoy nature.
