On February 1, 1963, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR No. 741/21, the working village of Yuzhnouralsk was transformed into a city of regional subordination.
The birth of the city was given by the South Uralskaya GRES, on the basis of which there were plants: radio ceramics (1954), valve and insulator (1957), Kristall plant (1962), porcelain (1963), repair and mechanical (1964), metal structures (1971), dairy (1972), bakery (1975).
The construction of a large industrial complex and residential facilities was carried out by a powerful and well-equipped organization - the construction department "Yuzhuralgrasstroy", founded in 1948. All that has been built over 55 years, became possible thanks to the skilled work of a large team of workers and ITR. The team of builders in those years was headed by managers who later led larger energy construction associations. These are Korobko G.I., Mikheev F.K., Yakimenko P.L., Rybka V.I., Bochkov A.A., Leontiev A.I., Tulupov N.P. The Construction Department has repeatedly won prizes in the all-Union competition of power engineers.
Currently, Yuzhnouralsk is a compact industrial city with an area of 10.7 thousand hectares, with a population of 40.3 (40.5 thousand people), located 90 km south of Chelyabinsk on the Uvelka River, 7 km from the Nizhne-Uvelskaya railway station, on the Yekaterinburg-Alma-Aty highways, Yuzhnouralsk-Magnitogorsk.
