Fonvizin and Curonian Spit
Description:
Fonvizin and Curonian Spit
The author of the famous play “Nedorosl” Denis Ivanovich Fonvizin drove with his wife along the Curonian Spit following from Memel (Klaipeda) to Koenigsberg (Kaliningrad) and left in a letter to his mother the following memories: “In the morning, twenty-eighth, we came to Rossiten (Fishermen) to change horses. Rossiten is a poor village. The postmaster lives in a hut so filthy we couldn't get in. This day was very unpleasant for us. We dined in the village of Sarkau (Forest) very badly, and in the evening, approaching Koenigsberg, the back spring broke.
