Sotsgorod, Zheleznogorsk, Krasnoyarsk-26, Devyatka, Atomgrad - as soon as this small secret city is not called, located in the valley of the Yenisei River 40 kilometers from Krasnoyarsk, surrounded by overgrown taiga hills.
The history of Zheleznogorsk cannot be separated from the biographies of the Mining and Chemical Combine, the space company NPO PM and other enterprises of the city. But their fate is a special conversation.
In 1950, in pursuance of the decision of the Central Committee of the CPSU (b) - the Council of Ministers of the USSR N326-302 from 26.50 on the banks of the Yenisei, construction of the GCC began - during the Cold War, life itself required to create facilities that ensure the defense power of the country. Railroads are being built and the city is growing. In 1951, the first streets appeared: Station, School, Lenin, however, at first they were nameless and had only numbers - 1, 2, 3, etc.
The founder of the city is Arkady Grigorievich Andreev - first the chief engineer, then the head of construction. One of the main streets of the city is named after him.
In 1954 Krasnoyarsk-26 was granted the status of a city.
In 1957, the city square was decorated with the House of Culture of the MCC, built according to an individual project of the Leningrad architect B.G. Manin, who supervised the construction of the DK until its completion, invented and ordered interior decoration items in the capital.
Since time immemorial, a small river Kantat, originating in the taiga wilds, carried its waters to the Yenisei, but a dam was built on its way, the whole world dug a pit and in 1958 the city found its man-made lake, on the banks of which for many years in the summer there is nowhere to fall an apple, and in winter the ice covering the lake is full of fishermen.
From the very beginning, when planning the city, they decided to leave the forest near the lake untouched. Holed it and cherished, asphalt paths were laid for thinkers and lovers, and attractions were installed for children, and the park became one of the pearls of which the city is proud.
The city of Zheleznogorsk has its own museum. In this regard, Zheleznogorsk was just lucky. Lucky there are people who preserve history for our distant descendants. The City Museum of Zheleznogorsk is quite young, but the museum staff managed to collect many interesting materials in their funds. The archaeological hall exhibits the bones and tusks of a mammoth, as well as the bones of a fossil rhino found during the construction of one of the enterprises, the burial of the Yenisei Scythian, dating from the first millennium BC. As well as sacrificial objects of the ancient inhabitants of the Kyrgyz Khaganate and much more.
.. . More than 50 years have passed, and Krasnoyarsk-26 (Zheleznogorsk now) is not a dozen streets, but a hundred thousandth city. The town is small but cozy. Those who have been there at least once try to get here again. How do you explain that? Perhaps our city attracts people with the opportunity to find peace and spiritual harmony away from the fussy smoked industrial centers? This is especially important in our difficult times. What's to complain about? We got what we got.
The changes that have taken place in the country over the past 10-15 years have significantly changed the life of the city. Atomgrad lost the features of the outpost of developed socialism. Although he still holds the status of a closed city, he, like the rest of the country, lives with disappointments and hopes for the future. Whatever it was, life goes on and writes new pages in the history of a closed city deep in the Siberian ores. What these pages will be, time will tell.
