Church of Alexander Nevsky

tsar Dusan Street, Belgrade, Serbia

Description:

During the battle of the Russian-Turkish war the commander was Alexander Nevsky. The brave prince helped the Serbs defeat their enemies, for which they thanked him by building a temple. Throughout its history, the church has changed its place several times. The reasons were different. In 1891, due to the improvement of Belgrade, the temple was demolished for the sake of new streets. He didn't catch on in his new place either.

During the construction, the foundation "swimmed" and it was over. Now the Church of Alexander Nevsky is located on Tsar Dushan Street. The current temple has also experienced minor difficulties. They started building it twice. The first architect E. Nacic was prevented by the World War. Her project with small additions was completed by P. Popovich.

The church is a huge two-storey building in the Byzantine style. Inside is a marble iconostasis, a huge number of icons of St. Alexander Nevsky and extraordinary beauty frescoes made to order. In addition to its main mission, catechism courses are held in the temple, its own newspaper is published, a parish school operates and oratorical speeches are held.
