Kalemegdan Fortress
Description:
Kalemegdan Fortress is the most important historical monument of Belgrade, located on the top of a hill 125 meters above sea level.
In the period of 378-441, the fortress was repeatedly destroyed by the Huns, and in 535 it was restored by the Byzantine emperor Justinian the Great and remained a Byzantine citadel until the 11th century, and then passed into the hands of Hungary, after which it was presented to the Serbs.
Now in the fortress there is a military museum, where you can see samples of weapons from different periods of history: from Roman, Greek and ancient Serbian weapons to impressive examples of Soviet, German and American production, including the American “stealth” shot down by the Serbs in 1999, which is the pride of the museum.
