Avala TV Tower
Aval TV Tower, Belgrade, Serbia
Description:
The Avala Tower is a tower with a height of more than 200 meters, located on the mountain of the same name on the outskirts of Belgrade. Today it is not only the tallest tower in Serbia, but also in the entire Balkan region.
In 1999, the tower was destroyed by NATO bombing. After a long renovation, Avala was reopened in a ceremony on April 21, 2010.
It is the only tower in the world constructed in the form of an equilateral triangle, and one of the few towers, the lower part of which is not sunk in the ground. Thus, it seems that the tower stands on several legs.
At the top of the Avala was fixed antenna, which was first used as broadcasting black and white transmissions. In 1971, it was replaced by an antenna to transmit a color signal.
After the destruction of the tower by NATO bombing, numerous fundraising activities were organized for the restoration of this architectural monument.
