Nemanyin Street

Nema,ina, Beograd 11000, Serbia

Description:

Nemanjin Street is one of the most important highways in the center of the capital of Serbia - Belgrade. The street received its name in 1896 in honor of one of the Serbian rulers of the XII century, Stefan Nemanja, who managed to preserve the independence of Serbia, as well as to strengthen his power to grant residents privileges and award many large plots of land.

Many of Belgrade’s most important administrative buildings were or are located on this street. Among them are the Ministry of Defense of Yugoslavia, which was blown up in 1999 during the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia, the New Building of the National Bank of Serbia and the Government Building of Serbia.

Naturally, the street needed a major reconstruction. This project was one of the most important for Belgrade. Its implementation took place in the middle of two thousand years. After the completion of repair work, new tramways, new parking spaces, road surfaces were laid along the street, and the drainage system was replaced and modernized.
