About the company:

The Belgrade Museum of African Art was founded in 1977 and today is the only museum in the country dedicated to the art and culture of Africa. The museum specializes in applied arts and focuses on African masks.

The exposition is based on exhibits from the private collection of Yugoslav diplomat Zdravko Pechar, which he managed to collect during his long stay in Africa as an ambassador. The collection contains many rare and valuable objects from the regions in which he lived and worked, and in 1974, according to the last will of Pechar, it was transferred to the disposal of the then still under construction museum. Over time, the staff of the museum has multiplied this collection, and now it has about 1,700 different exhibits.

In addition to masks, you can see national African musical instruments, paintings and statuettes made both in ancient times and today. Expositions are very popular not only among students-ethnographers, but also among numerous tourists.
