Bird Island
96 kilometers north of Mahe Island, Seychelles
Description:
Bird Island is a tiny coral island that is a popular ecological resort. Bird is located in the Indian Ocean and is administratively part of the Republic of Seychelles.
Translated into Russian, the word "bird" means "bird". In 1776, the island was so named by European navigators, who were very surprised by the huge number of birds nesting on this piece of land.
Bird Island is one of the smallest islands in the Seychelles archipelago. Its area is less than one square kilometer, however, the island is home to more than 100 species of birds - there are terns, white-tailed phaetons, sea swallows, swifts and other birds. For lovers of ornithology, this is a real paradise.
But Bird attracts not only nature lovers - the island also boasts wonderful beaches and clear sea, perfectly suitable for diving and fishing. A local attraction is 170-year-old Esmeralda - the heaviest turtle in the world, entered in the Guinness Book of Records.
