Coetivo Island
300 km south of Mahe Island, Seychelles
Description:
Koievi Island is a small coral atoll located in the Indian Ocean and belonging to the Seychelles group. Koievi lies three hundred kilometers south of Mahe, the central island of the Seychelles archipelago.
The island was discovered in 1771 by the French navigator Chevalier de Coetivi, who gave the island its name. Koetivi has a very modest size - its area is slightly more than nine square kilometers, and the population does not exceed 250 people. However, in comparison with many other coral islands of the Seychelles archipelago, the Coetivi atoll can be considered large.
Despite the great climate and good resort potential, there is not much tourism in Coetivo. The island is privately owned and used for commercial purposes. There is a shrimp farm and a factory for their processing. Also, the size of the island allows for the development of sheep breeding, and a significant part of the territory of Coetivo is reserved for pastures.
