Silhouette Island

20 km northwest of Mahe Island, Seychelles

Description:

Silhouette is a granite island in the Indian Ocean belonging to the Seychelles group. It is the third largest island of the archipelago, and it is located twenty kilometers northwest of Mahe Island, where the country's capital is located.

Against the backdrop of tiny coral atolls that make up most of the Seychelles, "Silhouette" stands out for its considerable size - the island has an area of more than twenty square kilometers with a length of six kilometers. The population of Silhouette does not exceed 200 people, mainly workers and their families. In the 18th and 19th centuries, most of the island was occupied by palm plantations, but in 1983, after the annexation of Silhouette to the Republic of Seychelles, the government turned this land area into a luxurious resort area.

Today the island "Silhouette" - a tourist paradise, attracting the attention of not only fans of lazy rest by the sea, but also wildlife lovers. Silhouette is located in the center of a state marine reserve, and such a variety of rare tropical fish is not found anywhere else.
