Sydney City Museum

2423 Beacon Avenue, Sidney, BC

About the company:

The Sydney City Museum tells about the history of settlements in the southern part of Vancouver Island. This museum acquaints visitors with the life and customs of the inhabitants of these places.

The Sydney City Museum was established in 1971, and since then its permanent exhibition has been regularly updated, as well as temporary exhibitions.

In the museum you can see the reconstruction of the kitchen of the first European settlers who sailed to the Saanic Peninsula in the eighties of the XIX century and founded the city of Sydney. A special place in the exposition is given to the economic development of the region - the museum recreates the interior of the first shops of the city, in its halls the objects used at the cannery and mill in the early XX century are shown. Here you can also learn about the history of the ferry line, which connected Sydney with the continent and gave a new impetus to the development of the city.

The museum regularly organizes temporary exhibitions dedicated to various events and cultural phenomena, making the city museum the main center of cultural life of Sydney.
