Sigiriya
Description:
Sigiriya, or “Lion Rock” is a rocky plateau located at an altitude of 370 meters above sea level, in the heart of Sri Lanka. UNESCO World Heritage Monument.
In the fifth century AD, King Kasap, fearing revenge for the murder of his father, built an impregnable fortress on the top of the mountain, surrounding Sigiriya with a moat of water. Unique stairs were built to enter the citadel – the steps are carved between the jaws, paws and throat of a huge lion, a symbol of the royal power of Sri Lanka. You're going to see those legs.
Sigiriya was surrounded by gardens, swimming pools and some of the world’s first fountains. On the rock itself there is still a gigantic royal throne.
The value of Sigiriya is a gallery of frescoes and a “mirror wall” polished with minerals. The images have preserved bright colors to the present day. You will see naked dancers, palace ladies and princesses.
