Bentota

Hindu temple

Bentota, Sri Lanka

Description:

Having visited the island of Sri Lanka, it is impossible to pass by the magnificent structure, impressive for its amazing shape and variety of stucco, this is the main 200-year-old Hindu temple in Bentota. Getting closer to it, you can see various small figurines depicting many figurines of animals, gods, as well as scenes from the mythology of India. The structure was built of South Indian granite using the technology of the best craftsmen from South India. Its peculiarity lies in the fact that any touch of columns or statues entails a very quiet slender sound. It is sometimes called the “Singing Temple”. Each figure of the temple is decorated so realistically that many tourists get the impression that the little deities will now come to life and come down from the walls.

Currently, the temple is active, here you can meet many pilgrims who want to worship the Mother of the three gods. This is the main shrine of the monastery, which is a statue depicting the Hindu deity Durga. Near the temple there is a small shop where you can buy souvenirs – calendars, figurines and keychains with a reduced copy of the structure.
