Bentota

Local market

Galle Rd, Aluthgama, Sri Lanka

Description:

Going on another trip, you, of course, dream in advance to bring from new places some unique souvenir, reminiscent of carefree days of vacation. The best souvenirs for yourself and your friends can be bought at the local market in Bentota.

The market here is an officially designated territory for the location of retail outlets. Basically, shops are stationary, and they sell products of local crafts. Traditional items of silver and copper, jewelry and dishes are considered. You can buy pottery, painted with fine patterns. And it is also recommended to grab a rug woven from coconut fiber. Surprise yourself and your friends with a bottle of exotic local arak. To be exact, this is ordinary moonshine, obtained from an unusual for us coconut juice. They say that this is a kind of business card of Bentota. Batik and ebony wood products are also popular. And be sure to buy Ceylon tea. It is sold here by weight, and in colorful packaging, with additives and without, black and green, the main thing is that it is high-quality.

There is a small post office in the Bentota market. You can send a postcard home from here. A branch of the Bank of Ceylon with an ATM is also open. If you have any questions or problems, you can contact the tourist office or the tourist police – there are representative offices of both organizations on the market.
