Lutheran Easter
Description:
Easter is celebrated with traditional painted Easter eggs and numerous church services across the country.
On Holy Thursday, the Easter Sorcerers go to a coven with the devil on the hill of Blakulla. Today, no one defends themselves from them by shooting in the air and lighting a fire, but the habit of children on this day to dress up as sorcerers has remained. Children hand out drawings with the words “Glad Pask” (Happy Easter) and receive sweets or coins in return.
At Easter, Swedes cook and paint eggs. Cut the branches of birch or willows, put them in vases and decorate with colorful feathers and small wooden testicles. Children receive candy in an Easter egg made of papier-mâché, on which chickens, rabbits and sorcerers are painted.
