Kungsportsplatsen Square
Kungsportsplatsen, 411 10 Goteborg, Sweden
Description:
Kungsportsplatsen Square in Gothenburg was built in 1852 according to the project of the architect Carl Branius. It is located on the site of the early fortifications of the city. The square got its name in honor of the Royal Gate, which was the main entrance to the fortress city. As the city grew beyond the moat and the gate lost its relevance, they were demolished.
In the center of the square is a statue of King Charles IX, the founder of Gothenburg. The unique architecture of the square harmoniously combines historical and modern buildings. Here you can see many ancient monuments that have preserved the history and traditions of the city. Kungsportsplatsen Square is an ideal venue for all kinds of cultural events, including annual fairs and exhibitions of young talented artists.
Near the square is a park with beautiful landscape design, cozy restaurants and cafes. The square is especially beautiful in the evening, when many colorful lights are lit on it.
