Sofiero Palace

Sofierovä gen 131, 251 89 Helsingborg, Sverige

Description:

Sofiaru is one of the many attractions of Helsingborg, and formerly the palace of the Swedish royal family. It was originally a dilapidated building called Scabelucca, which was acquired by Crown Prince Oscar in 1864. The reconstruction of the palace was completed in 1865, it acquired its modern appearance after the accession of Oscar to the throne in 1876. In 1879, a wonderful garden of rhododendrons was laid out on the territory adjacent to the palace, thanks to which the structure gained its popularity. Until 1950, the palace was the favorite residence of King Gustav VI Adolf, who after his death bequeathed the building to Helsingborg.

In 1965, a major reconstruction of the building was carried out, as a result of which the interior and exterior decoration were completely updated. Despite this, the appearance of the castle has remained unchanged since its construction – it is a building built in the classical Gothic style, with two rectangular turrets on the sides, topped with islander roofs. In the local park there is a small exhibition hall of modern art.

Every year, the palace attracts many tourists from all over the world, fascinating them with its architecture and flowering gardens.
