Cathedral in Lund

Kyrkogatan 6, 222 22 Lund, Sweden

Description:

The first mention of the cathedral, built at Lund during the 1080s, is found in the charter of Canute IV, dated 21 May 1085. However, there is no evidence that the description refers to the modern cathedral of Lund.

Lund Cathedral is the most beautiful building in the Romanesque style. Sandstone was used in its construction. It was also made of sculptures and carved decoration of the building. The towers of the cathedral are 55 meters high. In clear weather they can be seen from afar. The oldest church bell was built in 1513.

There are only five organs in Lund Cathedral. The largest organ is the gallery organ, created in 1932-1934. It is one of the largest organs in Sweden. The smallest organ is located in an astronomical clock. In addition to divine services, the cathedral often hosts concerts of sacred music, various exhibitions, and also periodically hosts solemn ceremonies awarding the degree of doctor.
