The Swedish jewel is Malmo!
Description:
If you come to Copenhagen for a few days and from the local attractions began to get a little tired, then we suggest you to get acquainted with the city of Malmö (Swedish. Malmö), located in the south of Sweden, 35 km from Copenhagen, on the other side of the Øresund Strait.
Malmö is the 3rd largest city in Sweden with a population of about 300,000 people, and one of the largest Swedish cities in terms of the number of restaurants, about 400, per capita. It is a very hospitable and beautiful city and one of the fastest growing cities in Sweden. Here, figuratively speaking, there is everything: water parks, exhibitions, ancient architecture with buildings of the 14th - 16th centuries, peasant markets with fresh products, the 2nd largest skyscraper in Europe, a medieval castle, festivals, exhibitions and much more.
We invite you to a tour of Malmö, where we will find out how it happened that the original Danish territory of Malmö became Swedish and what is the province of Skåne, on the territory of which the city of Malmö is located, as well as who the locals feel themselves because (as you know, 11% of the locals do not consider themselves either Swedes or Danes) and why the merchants of antiquity called this city “Loctem”, and the last question: how the difficult relations between the Danes and Swedes have developed for this territory over the past 500 years.
Our journey will start from your hotel. We will race over one of the most picturesque bridges in the Baltic, which connected Copenhagen and Malmo in 2000. On the way, you will learn the history of the creation of this crossing, about which the Discovery channel made a film from the series “The most grandiose structures of the planet”. The Øresund crossing is a 4-kilometer tunnel that runs along the bottom of the Øresund Strait, and then comes to the surface and turns into an 8-kilometer bridge with adjacent territories, which in total gives about 16 km. Traveling over this bridge is an adventure in itself, although not very long. We will soon find ourselves in the city of Malmo and we will start our acquaintance with this hospitable city at the medieval fortress of Malmøhus, one of the oldest castles of the Renaissance.
Here we will get acquainted with the history of the city of Malmo, and also look at one of the local attractions - the 190-meter building "Twisted torso" (Swedish. Turning torso), which is second only to the Moscow 264-meter Triumph Palace in height among residential buildings in Europe.
During a walk through the castle of Malmochus you will hear the history of this place, which was built in the first half of the 15th century, learn how this building changed from the fortress to the printed courtyard, where coins were minted, and then was transformed into a castle, where the heir to the throne Frederick 2nd threw parties, which dreamed to visit all the nobles of that time. You will learn why this place became the largest prison in the 19th century and under what circumstances it became a museum.
One of the stops of our tour will be the center of Malmö, where we will visit the oldest building in the city - St. Peter's Church, built in 1310. Just a few steps from the church is the Town Hall Square, where we will get acquainted with the sculpture of a man who managed to recapture Malmö from the Danes, as well as walk along a pedestrian street dotted with small shops and souvenir shops. Malmö is famous not only for its monuments, but also for shopping, as prices here are about 30% lower than in Copenhagen.
Walking through the winding streets of the central part of Malmö, we will get to its heart - Gustav Adolf Square (Swedish: Gustav Adolfs torg), where the symbol of this city sits in the fountain on the top of the globe - Griffin in a golden crown. Here you will hear the story of one of the Danish kings of the past, Eric Pomeransky, who built Malmechus Castle, and also learn how Eric gave the Griffon symbol to the city of Malmo.
Our last stop will be the historic centre of Malmo in the small town square (Lilla torg). Here and today you can see numerous buildings of the 16th century. Walking through this square strewn with cafes and restaurants, we will visit the oldest building, in the courtyard of which you can feel the spirit of medieval Sweden. After that, we can discuss everything we have heard and seen in one of the many cafes, and we will be heading back to Copenhagen.
Features of the excursion: This is an author’s tour, during which you will visit the most interesting places in the city of Malmo, as well as learn interesting facts from the history of their creation. Thus, during your trip to Denmark, you will learn another Scandinavian country - Sweden and have a more complete idea of Scandinavia. We will learn how the history of relations between these two powers developed and enjoy the color of medieval Sweden after visiting the buildings of the 14th and 16th centuries. The tour is conducted in Russian.
