Carl's Church

ostergatan 16B, 211 25 Malmo, Sweden

Description:

Charles Church, also known as the German Church, is located in Malmo, Sweden. It was named after King Charles XI of Sweden.

Charles Church was built in 1680 specifically for numerous German immigrants. In the 17th century, merchants and craftsmen who established their business in Sweden often settled in large cities, including Malmo. It was profitable for the city authorities to keep the Germans who paid taxes regularly at home, and therefore they tried to create the most comfortable conditions for them. Since services in the church were always held in German, locals began to informally call it the German Church.
