Royal Park
Slottsgatan 33, 211 33 Malmo, Sweden
Description:
The Royal Park, located in central Malmo, is the oldest park in the city. Originally called "King Oscar Park", the name was shortened to the current version.
The Royal Park was opened in 1872 on the grounds of the old cemetery. Many citizens (and especially the clergy) at first this idea was met with skepticism, but after the opening, everyone was so fascinated by the beauty of the park that they forgot about the aesthetic side of the issue. The development of landscape design (not the fact that in those days people used such terms, but the essence of the work was reduced to this) was entrusted to the Danish specialist Uwe Hansen, who was largely inspired by the beauty of English parks. As a result, the location of gardens and hedgerows in many ways resembled the design of the parks of Albion.
There are many exotic trees growing in the Royal Park. Here you can also admire beautiful fountains and sculptures. The reconstruction, which took place in 2006-2010, cost 11 million SEK.
