Description:
Malmö Castle (also known as Malmöhus Castle) is an ancient fortress located in the city of Malmö in southern Sweden. Now within its walls there are several museums at once - Art, Marine, City and Scientific and Technical.
The first castle was built in 1434 by order of King Eric. At the beginning of the 16th century, this castle was almost completely destroyed, so in 1537 a new one appeared in its place, almost completely repeating the architecture of its predecessor. Malmö Castle was strategically important in the Middle Ages as it controlled the movement of merchant ships of the Hanseatic League. There were barracks for soldiers and many artillery pieces. Later, the castle was converted into a prison, where military and political criminals were kept.
Currently, everyone has the opportunity to visit the museums located in the castle, where you can get acquainted with the history of the city of Malmo, the art gallery of Scandinavian masters of the 20th century, as well as follow the history of the development of scientific and technological progress in Sweden. The cost of visiting for adults is 5 euros, and for children - 2 euros.
