Malmo Central Station

Description:

Malmo Central Station is the railway station of Malmo Main South Line, opened since 1876. It is one of the busiest train stations in Sweden, serving up to 17 million passengers per year. In addition to the ability to maintain a large passenger turnover, this station is known for its remarkable architecture, imbued with the spirit of the mid-19th century.

Malmo Central Station was opened in 1856, almost simultaneously with the opening of the Malmo-Lund railway. In 1866, a fire almost completely destroyed the station building, which took several years to rebuild. The station, meanwhile, continued to function and expand - new railway tracks and platforms were added as needed.

With the opening of the City Tunnel in 2010, Malmo Central Station began to receive transit flights leading to Copenhagen on the Oresund line, which led to the need for another expansion. Currently, most flights to Denmark are via the City Tunnel. Due to the increased passenger traffic, it was decided to expand the bus terminal adjacent to the station.
