Stockholm

Royal Palace

Description:

The Stockholm residence of His Majesty Carl XVI Gustaf is the largest of the existing palaces in the world. It was built for 57 years on the site of a medieval castle burned down in 1697.

Why was the throne thrown out the window? Why is there no bed in the King's bedroom? Where and how does the royal couple receive Nobel laureates, and why is a precious plowwoman put on the table during receptions? Why did one of the halls of the palace have to be renovated with an eraser, and where did the impression of a horseshoe appear in one of the silver bowls? These and other questions will be answered during the tour.

In addition to the state and guest chambers, you can visit the Treasury, where the royal regalia are stored, the Museum of the Three Crowns Castle, and the gallery of the collection of ancient art (open only in summer). I hope you will be interested in visiting the walls of the medieval castle, as well as to find out why the mother of Gustav III needed to pull 44 diamonds from her crown.
