In the residence of the King of Sweden, in the palace in Drottnigholm

Description:

I invite you to take a tour of the King's residence in Drottnigholm. In other words, to visit the king of Sweden for a cup of tea. You will find yourself in a historical setting of the highest international class. Since 1981, the palace has been the permanent residence of the Royal Family. This is the best preserved palace of the Kingdom of Sweden. It was built in the XVII century and is a sample of European royal architecture of that time. Drottningholm Palace is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The palace building, the exotic Chinese pavilion, the palace theater and the majestic park form a unique palace and park complex. The first park landings appeared at the end of the XVII century. This part of the palace park is called “garden baroque” and is located at the very walls of the palace, fenced off by lime alleys. The source of inspiration in the breakdown of the park was the design of palace parks in France, where the ideal was strict accuracy of lines, figuratively trimmed plantings and symmetry. All the bronze sculptures in the park are works of the sculptor de Vries and they came to Sweden as war trophies in 1648 - from Prague, and in 1659 - from Fredriksborg in Denmark. When Drottningholm passed to Gustav III in 1777, a large romantic park in the English style was created - the so-called natural landscape or landscape park, which still surrounds the Baroque palace and the French garden.

Drottnigholm can be reached both by land and by water. We can make an unforgettable trip on the steamer Prince Philip, enjoying the picturesque views of the islands of Lake Malaren. The boat ride takes about 50 minutes.
