Stockholm

Royal Palace

Gamla Stan, Stockholm, Sweden

Description:

The Royal Palace of Stockholm has over 600 rooms. There are also several outstanding city attractions: the Royal Apartments, the Hall of Celebrations, the Chambers of the Order of Knights, the Treasury, the Three Crowns Palace Museum, the Arsenal and the Gustav III Antique Museum.

From April to October, on the square in front of the palace, you can observe a solemn ceremony of changing the royal guard every day, in winter - on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 12:10, and on Sundays and holidays - at 13:10.

The Royal Palace was built on the foundations of the medieval castle of the middle of the XIII century, called Tre Kronor (Three Crowns). The castle was destroyed by fire in 1697. Its remains can be seen in the palace-museum "Three Crowns".

The new palace was built from 1697 to 1754. The majestic royal chambers are decorated in different styles: from Baroque, Rococo and Gustavian Neoclassicism to the eclectic styles of the XIX century.
