Engelbrekt Monument at the Town Hall

Hantverkargatan 1, Stockholm, Sweden

Description:

In Stockholm, near the town hall, on the embankment of Lake Mälaren, stands a monument to the Swedish national hero – Engelbrekt Engelbrektsson. He distinguished himself in a large-scale popular uprising of 1434-1436. Under his leadership, during the bloody battles, the country was liberated from the Danes.

The monument is a very high granite stele-column, which expands at the very top, is transformed into a square pedestal. It has a monument to Engelbrekt in full growth. Stepping forward with his right foot, with his right hand he holds the banner, and his left hand is stretched slightly back.

Around the monument there are green lawns with paths lined with slabs. Around the perimeter there are benches for residents and tourists, who like this place very much, as it is surrounded by water on both sides, and there is a beautiful view of the central part of Stockholm. Nearby a small fountain in the form of a shell with wavy edges was built, from the center of which water beats.

The Engelbrektou Monument is a symbol of Swedish freedom, reminiscent of the medieval history of the state.
