Sveavä gen 73, 113 50 Stockholm, Sverige

Description:

Stockholm Public Library is the first public library of the Swedish capital, built in 1928 by the famous architect Gunnar Asplund. Its building is one of the most notable in the city - it was erected in 1938, at its grand opening was attended by Prince Eugen. The main element of the design is a high cylinder, which gives it a certain monumentality. The base of the building is made in a classical style, in the exterior decoration sand tones prevail.

The Stockholm Public Library is Sweden’s first open-shelf library, meaning that literature is freely available and visitors are not required to contact librarians. Based on this position, the layout of the reading room was developed.

Today, the library holds about 2 million books written in 120 languages. The budget of the institution is almost 13 million US dollars. The Stockholm Public Library is part of the city’s library network of about 40. It should be noted that there are special children's departments, furnished with miniature racks.
