Monument to Charles XII
charles XII Square, Stockholm, Sweden
Description:
Charles XII is one of Sweden’s most famous kings, famous for waging endless wars with Russia.
The monument was erected in the center of Stockholm in the autumn of 1868. Money for the production of the sculpture was collected all over the country, so to speak, the whole world. For a long time, the sculpture of the king, eloquently pointing his finger towards Russia, was considered the embodiment of the spirit of the warrior king. The bronze sculpture of the young king in military uniform stands on a high pedestal surrounded by a small laconic fence. The whole appearance of Charles XII breathes determination and uncompromising.
Contrary to recent talk of moving the monument to areas far from the center, most Swedes are against such a decision.
