Jarl Birger Square
Description:
Located on the island of Riddarholmen in Gamla Stan, the Old Town in Stockholm.
The square was formerly called Riddarholmstorget, but in the mid-19th century it was renamed Birger Jarl Square, traditionally considered the founder of Stockholm, and its statue was erected on the square in 1854.
The square is surrounded by half a dozen palaces, today mostly occupied by various state bodies.
