Sculpture "Solar Ship"
50 metres west of Sodra Riddarholmshamnen 15, 111 28 Stockholm, Sweden
Description:
The sculpture "Solar Ship" was opened in 1966 and is located in the Ridalholmen area on the embankment terrace of Evert Taube.
This rather unusual abstract sculpture was created by the artist Christian Berg. The idea of creating the sculpture came to the author during a trip to an island in the Aegean Sea, when he discovered an unusual shell in the sand. Impressed by sailboats and this shell, Berg came up with this figure.
The original granite stone from which the sculpture was created weighed 6 tons. As a result of the creative process, it turned into this simple, but at the same time elegant ship. Looking at it from afar, it seems that the sail of the ship has gained air and the ship is about to move from its place.
