Valentine's Day

Description:

The most important bird of the day is the pigeon!
Some people say that on this day all birds choose a mate. The most important bird of the day is the pigeon. After all, pigeons do not change pairs all their lives and take care of chicks together. These birds are symbols of loyalty and love, as well as symbols of Valentine’s Day.

But the pigeon is not the only bird associated with this romantic holiday. Some people believed that if on Valentine’s Day a girl saw a robin, she would marry a sailor, if she saw a sparrow, she would marry a poor man and be happy with him, if the goldfinch – a millionaire.

In ancient times, there was a belief that the first man who met a girl on February 14, should be her Valentine, regardless of her desire. Therefore, on this day, wearing their favorite dress and leaving the house, the girls showed caution and vigilance so that the first man who caught the eye was the right match for them.

Today, however, as before, the main and certainly ritual detail of the holiday are valentines - postcards-messages with confessions of love. They probably originate from Valentine’s only letter to his beloved. Valentines should be made in the shape of a heart. Traditionally, they are written with changed handwriting or left hand and not signed. The recipient must guess for himself who sent him the valentine.
