National holiday of Switzerland
Description:
August 1 is more like a family holiday celebrated locally in every corner of Switzerland. Each canton celebrates this holiday in accordance with the ancient traditions of its region: speeches of high-ranking and respected “fathers of the city or village”, musical concerts.
In addition to an extensive cultural program, in every city or village, this day is the best time to get acquainted with the national cuisine in all its diversity. On this day, bakers decorate fresh buns with small Swiss flags.
Folk music and dance are also an indispensable attribute of celebration. In the evening, children light colored lanterns. In every village, in the mountains, bonfires are lit everywhere, and the inhabitants are pulled up to the fires.
Almost every family prepares its own fireworks for the holiday, so the sky over jubilant Switzerland is illuminated by all imaginable and inconceivable colors and flashes of lights.
