New Year

Description:

Celebrate with great noise, champagne and fireworks.
The Swiss celebrate New Year with a lot of noise, champagne, fireworks and fun parties. The New Year holiday continues the Christmas celebrations, and it is celebrated on a large scale. A giant fireworks display marks the arrival of the New Year.

In the north-east of the country, along with the usual, it is customary to celebrate the New Year according to the old Julian calendar (what we call the “old new year”). On New Year’s Eve, many of the local residents, who enjoy a reputation for being respectable, well-meaning and prudent, can be seen wandering around with rather bizarre structures on their heads, resembling either puppet houses or real botanical gardens. Taking a leisurely walk, they make noise and shout, driving away evil spirits and calling for good spirits.

There are also signs associated with the New Year holiday. The Swiss believe that a drop of cream dropped on the floor on the New Year will bring incredible prosperity to the hosts in the coming year.

After a family Christmas and a bustling New Year, a period of holidays and holidays begins throughout Switzerland.
