Habsburg Castle

Schloss Habsburg, Fam. Suter, 5245 Habsburg

Description:

Habsburg Castle is located on a hilltop surrounded by the Alps and is the birthplace of the Habsburg dynasty - one of the leading European monarchical clans. The castle was built in 1030 and has survived to this day almost in its original form.

The appearance of the castle is connected with the legend, according to which Count Radbot lost his hawk during the hunt and found it on the top of the hill. The count appreciated the favorable location of the hill and decided to establish a castle here, which was named Habichtsburg, which in German means "Hawk Castle".

In 1979, a museum was equipped in the premises of the castle, which houses an exhibition dedicated to the history of its construction and the life of the local population in the Middle Ages. In the Knights and Gothic halls there is a tavern with tables for visitors, in the basements of the castle there is a wine cellar.

You can visit Habsburg Castle from 9.00 to midnight.
