Bellinzona

Collegial Square

Belinzona, Switzerland

Description:

Piazza Collegiata is a small but rather cozy square of Bellinzona, founded in the Middle Ages. Around it are buildings of the XVII century, as well as the Cathedral of St. Peter and Stephen. It is decorated with luxurious facades of medieval aristocracy houses.

They are decorated very well and often hide behind them elegant courtyards with loggias. In the 1800s, the square was radically changed under the leadership of Monsignor Carlo Cicerio. Therefore, on the facades you can find busts belonging to different periods. Another interesting feature of the square is the abundance of charming small wrought iron balconies with grilles.

The attraction of Riazza Collegiata is a three-storey mansion of the XVIII century – the property of the Chicherio family. It has a square-shaped tower that allows rays of light to effectively penetrate the central staircase. The whole square as a whole evokes the spirit of the past, peace and permanence reign here, which is why it becomes a "living room" for local residents and tourists.
