Fountain Zeringer
On the corner of Kramgass Street, Bern, Switzerland
Description:
The Zeringer Fountain is a famous medieval fountain located in the Swiss city of Bern. Due to its great historical value, the fountain is recognized as a cultural heritage of the country and is under the auspices of UNESCO.
The Zeringer Fountain was built in 1535 by architect Hans Ging and is dedicated to the founder of Bern, Duke Berthold von Zeringer. However, this architectural monument received its modern name only in the nineteenth century.
The central figure of the fountain is a high pedestal, on which a statue of a bear is installed. The bear stands on two legs, just like a man, and is dressed in a complete set of knightly armor. In the left hand of the statue is a coat of arms of the Zeringer dynasty, and the right clutches the banner with a golden lion on a red background. At the feet of a large bear sits a small bear and calmly eats grapes.
The Zeringer Fountain is extremely beautiful and colorful. Today, it has become one of the most recognizable symbols of the Swiss capital, and any tourist visiting Bern is simply obliged to take a look at this landmark.
