Bern

Market Square

Bundesplatz 3, 3005 Bern, Switzerland

Description:

In Bern, as in any European city with a historical past, there is its own market square, or as it is called otherwise – a marketplace. Here vegetables, cheeses, different varieties of sausages and various flowers are sold. There are also a lot of diners and cafes. In the immediate vicinity of the square is the Bundeshaus, where tickets can be accessed to the session of Parliament. This is a very popular entertainment for the Swiss.

Every fourth Monday in November, the famous onion festival is held here, which is the largest public event in Bern. During one day, residents of the capital and numerous tourists can buy onion toys and dolls, onion braids, crafts, other vegetables and souvenirs in more than 700 market tents. Farmers from neighboring areas sell about 50 tons of one onion.
