Allmendingen Castle

Switzerland, canton Bern.

Description:

Allmendingen Castle is located in the canton of Bern, Switzerland. The small but very impressive buildings of Allmendingen Castle open to the right of the road leading from Bern to Thun. Strong, built of stone walls, red roofs, pointed tower with a spire - this is how the building looks today. However, in the XVI century, when the first castle – “Old Allmendingen” – was built, it is designated as “broken castle”. Probably, it was not particularly durable, and in 1676 on its ruins was built Allmendingen. Judging by the appearance of the palace rather than the castle, the building was a country residence. The date on the door is 1607. The buildings were complemented by stairs, a covered garden and a gazebo and in general were a wonderful place for a quiet secluded rest. In September 1946, Allmendingen Castle was visited by British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
