Alt Oberhofen Castle

Switzerland, Canton Bern, Lake Thun.

Description:

Alt Oberhofen Castle is located on the banks of Thunersee (Lake Thun), between Interlaken and Thun. A powerful stone structure seems to grow from the waters of the lake, giving birth to a fabulous beauty picture. The castle is included in the official list of castles-monuments of Switzerland of the feudal era. The time of construction of the fortress is the middle of the XII century. The museum exposition and interiors of Alt-Oberhofen Castle make up a separate interesting excursion. Along with visiting the halls, tourists can stroll through the large English park spread around the castle.

The park with centuries-old trees occupies a vast territory, emphasizing the majesty of the strange structure.

The interiors of Alt-Oberhofen convey the spirit of the strict Middle Ages, and only in a few rooms the atmosphere is sustained in the luxurious style of the XVIII century. Paintings of famous European artists are the subject of special pride of the castle-museum. The works created by representatives of different arts and historical epochs over five hundred years allow us to trace the changes in human ideas about the world.
