Arberg Castle
Switzerland, Canton Bern, Aarberg.
Description:
Arberg Castle (Aarberg) is located in the canton of Bern, in the commune of Aarberg. The time of construction of the castle is not exactly established, but in the XIII century, under Count Ulrich IV, the settlement of Aarberg is already mentioned and probably at that time there was a fortress.
Currently, there are several municipal and office formations on the territory of the castle: the district court, administration, registry office, police, offices. In the middle of the XIV century, representatives of the count family Neuchâtel leased the castle due to financial difficulties, and until 1880 it served as the residence of the bailiff of Bern. The buildings of the castle complex survived several fires, in particular Arberg (Aarberg) burned in 1419 and 1477. The modern appearance of the building appeared, in all probability, thanks to the superstructures made in the XVI-XVIII centuries: it is a protruding roof in the style of the Bernese Renaissance, towers, stairs.
Today, on the territory of Arberg Castle is the municipal administration, the district court, the state police, private offices.
