Ariz Castle on Kien

The ruins of Ariz about Kien, a medieval castle built by representatives of the Kin family, are located in the territory of Kanderthal Reichenbach, canton of Bern, Switzerland. The castle was first mentioned at the end of the XII century, for a hundred years was the family estate of the barons Kin. At the end of the XIII century it was abandoned, arousing the interest of historians only in the XX century, in 1934, when restoration work was carried out. The fragments of the residential tower, the ditches surrounding it, two trenches and bulk ramparts are clearly visible. The castle of Ariz o Kien belonged to the fortifications, which were surrounded by an artificial moat not circular, but on the side where the buildings needed the greatest protection and were not protected by a natural barrier. As a rule, a bridge was provided for the entrance or entrance to the castle.
