Belp Castle
Switzerland, canton Bern, Belp.
Description:
Belp Castle was conquered and ravaged in 1298 by the Bernese rulers, and the owners were graciously allowed to build a new house - of wood. The buildings were reconstructed and completed in the XVI-XVII centuries, supplemented by turrets, majestic annexes, and as a result the castle began to resemble a luxurious European palace with elements of medieval and Baroque architecture. And at the end of the XVIII century, the building received the name of a broken castle. After 1798, the castle became the administrative public building of Bern. Until December 31, 2009, the judicial and administrative authorities of the district were located within its walls. In mid-2012, the municipal authorities of Belp bought the building of the castle Belp from the canton of Bern. Belp Castle is captured on the canvas of 1757 by one of the famous Swiss masters of landscape painting – Johann Ludwig Aberly.
