Buren Castle

Switzerland, canton of Bern, Buren am Aare.

Description:

Currently, the castle houses the administration of the Buren district and the judicial authorities of the district. At the end of the XIV century, in 1393, Buren acts as the successor of the Neuchâtel family. In 1620, Berne bought the land on which there were four country estates - between Aare and Meinstrasse, at the western entrance to the city. In their place was built a castle, which serves as a border post, controlling the roads from East to West through Switzerland. From 1624, Buren Castle became the seat of the administration.

The castle looks like a fortified stone structure, the structure was supposed to inspire a sense of power, power. The front side, courtyard towers, cornices, a massive staircase – all elements tried to preserve in the pristine Baroque style. The castle was reconstructed, on the side of the ends and facade supplemented by a cycle of modern painting in the manner of iconography. There are parallels with classical Roman themes, allegorical images and coats of arms symbolize fertility, as well as prosperity of the city.
